How to Remove and Replace a SPARC Enterprise T5440 Service Processor Battery

Solution

WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED:

No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
SP Battery failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution. The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown. Then power down the system and disconnect the power cords.


WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED:

A) Remove the battery:
1. Power off the server, Extend the Server to the Maintenance Position
2. Disconnect Power Cords From the Server
3. Perform Electrostatic Discharge – Antistatic Prevention Measures
4. Remove the Top Cover
5. Remove the Service Processor
6. Release the latch securing the battery to its holder on the service processor board
7. Lift the battery up and off the board.

B) Install the Battery:
1. Place the battery into its holder on the service processor board. Ensure that the battery is oriented correctly.
2. Press the battery firmly until it snaps into place.
3. Install the Service Processor
4. Install the Top Cover
5. Slide the Server Into the Rack, Connect the Power Cords to the Server”
6. Use the ILOM setdate command to set the day and time.
7. After returning the server to operation, check and reset the Solaris OS date.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: N/A
