DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED: X4170 M2 or X4270 M2 Trained.
TASK COMPLEXITY: 2
TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Need access to the ILOM. System can be powered on.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
After replacing any FRU in the above mentioned platforms, the System Serial information (also known as FRUID or TLI information) will in most cases be automatically copied over to the newly installed component.
All systems referenced in this CAP, use a common method to store and update FRUID information (including system serial number). This method is called Top Level Identifier (TLI). In essence, the Serial number is stored on a Primary FRU as well as two Backup FRU's, three containers as such.
Doc ID 1280913.1 discusses TLI in detail.
You can view this container information by doing the following...
-Log into the System ILOM as root
-Type "set SESSION mode=restricted"
-Then type "showpsnc"
-Type "exit" to return to the ILOM CLI.
[(restricted_shell) x4170-lab-sp:~]# showpsnc
Primary: fruid:///SYS/PDB
Backup 1: fruid:///SYS/MB
Backup 2: fruid:///SYS/DBP

Automatic Product Serial Number Update:
The System serial number will update automatically after replacing any FRU, so long as the Primary container and at least one backup container is not located on the FRU that is being replaced. In the sample above, the MB will auto update if replaced as there will still be the primary container on the PDB and a backup container on the DBP. Replacing the DBP would also auto update. However replacing the PDB would require manual updating by Oracle Support staff.
Note: - It is never a good idea to replace more than 1 part at a time as this can compromise the automatic TLI synchronisation.
If the update fails and the above TLI information is no longer synchronised, then Oracle Support staff will need to be engaged to resolve the issue.
Note - This TLI auto update feature is not supported on the Sun Fire X4170 M2 Server. For Sun Fire X4170 M2 Servers, authorized service personnel must update the TLI in the replacement module manually.
If the Primary or both of the Backups are replaced at the same time, the below Manual update process is required.
Manual Product Serial Number Update:
In other scenarios where there is at least one container which still contains valid TLI information, a service mode command copypsnc can be used to update the product serial number. See knowledge article 1019946.1 for more details on how to enter service mode. Syntax... copypsnc: <src> <dest>
-> copypsnc BACKUP1 PRIMARY
The above command will copy the contents of the Backup1 container to the Primary
Note:The copypsnc command produces no output upon success.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Verify the server serial number updated correctly.
log into the ILOM and run the command below to confirm if server serial number updated correctly.
-> show /SYS product_serial_number
PARTS NOTE: None
