DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED?: No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure
- TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 0
REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
What: Replace a failed PCIe-card
Where: <system hostname or serial-number> PCIe-<X> <system hostname or serial-number and PCIe-slot number to be provided by SR-owner>
Why: Alerts or SR-owner diagnosis has determined the PCIe-card needs to be replaced.
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
The system must be shut down prior to initiating any resolution activity.
- WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED?:
Preparation:
1. Make sure the system has been powered off.
2. Remove the cable management assembly if necessary.
Caution - To prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage to the components on the system controller, connect a ground strap between yourself and the chassis ground before proceeding.
3. Remove the system controller.
a: Unscrew the captive screw on the system controller handle.
b: Use one hand to pull handle to slide the system controller out of the chassis, while supporting the system controller weight with your other hand. Be careful not to drop the system controller once it's out of the chassis
c: Place the system controller assembly on an ESD secured surface
d: Loosen the two captive screws (with plastic green caps) under the system controller handle
e: Push the system controller cover toward the rear and lift it off the chassis.
4. Install the PCI-X board.
Align the PCI-X board connectors with the metal tab on the left and the bottom connectors on the I/O board. Then push the board into place. See FIGURE 3-28.
5. Replace the system controller.
a: Place the cover onto the system controller.
b:Hand tighten the two captive screws to secure the cover.
c: Align the system controller with the empty bay in the chassis.
Before replacing the system controller, make sure the cover is installed.
d: Push the system controller into the bay until it firmly engages with the connector on the power distribution board.
e: Push the system controller further until it is seated firmly. Close the system controller handle.
f: Lift the system controller handle until its latch clicks into place.
g: Connect the power cables to both power supplies and make sure to use the power cord retaining clips to keep power cords attached snugly.
6. Replace the cable management assembly if necessary.
- WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:
Once system has booted, go to the Maintenance > Hardware screen of the BUI, and click the details link under the controller. Then, click Slots to verify the status of the new component. The status indicator should appear green.Go to Maintenance -> Active Problems and mark "Repaired" any prior faults related to device.
