Goal

Information regarding an RTD or vRTD offine, or Clink offline (FSC73D8 or FSC 8FEE call home MIM messages).

Possible SIM Messages:
Message: SLS6684I RTD DDDDDDDD ON VTSS XXXXXXXX DETECTED ECAM ERROR CC=5 RC=108
Message: SLS6684I RTD DDDDDDDD ON VTSS XXXXXXXX DETECTED ECAM ERROR CC=5 RC=109
Message: SLS6684I RTD DDDDDDDD ON VTSS XXXXXXXX DETECTED ECAM ERROR CC=5 RC=113

There may be an SLS6625E message with 32 bytes of sense data following the above messages

Solution

An FSC 8FEE or FSC 73D8 can be attributed to a temporary or recoverable error communicating to a physical tape drive (RTD), VLE virtual tape drive (vRTD), or VTSS for data replication.

1) A Physical tape drive attached to the VTSS and used to migrate(write) or recall(read) data to/from an RTD. RTDs are attached to a VTSS through a channel interface such as Ficon.

2) A virtual RTD (vRTD) which is part of the VLE solution to migrate(write) or recall(read) data between the VTSS and VLE.

3) A Cluster link which is attached to another VTSS. It is used to replicate (copy or write) a VTV from one VTSS to another.  A cluster link can be either a Ficon channel link or IP ethernet link.

If an RTD or vRTD is determined to have gone offline, please check the state of the device and/or communication link (Clink).  If offline, please make an attempt to vary back online through VTCS.

What to do when a callhome MIM message is received for FSC73D8:

  1. Vary drive and/or clink path online, depending on what is offline.
  2. Monitor for drive/path going offline again

    If that fails, or a new error occurs, please open a service request for further log analyze by Oracle technical support.

  3. Possible causes could be a problem with:
    * The tape media
    * The RTD itself
    * Cabling
    * A card on the VTSS (interface card)
