DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED: X4170 M2 hw, OpenStorage knowledge
- TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 3

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:

What: Replace a fan power board

Where: hostname or serial-number - To be provided by SR-owner

Why: Several or all fans connected to the power board are generating alerts. SR-owner determined the power-board to be faulty/suspected.

- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: System should be powered off before starting the actions

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Preparation for removing the fan board
1.1 Disconnect the power cords from the power supplies.
1.2 Extend the server to the maintenance position.
Note - If you are removing the fan board to access the paddle board or storage drive cage, you must remove the server from the rack.
1.3 Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
1.4 Remove the top cover.

2. Removing the fan board
2.1 Remove the four fan modules.
2.2 Disconnect the storage drive cables from the disk backplane.
To disconnect each cable, press the latch, push in toward the connector, and then pull out to remove the cable.
2.3 Disconnect the fan power cable and the fan ribbon cable
2.4 Remove the Phillips screw that secures the fan board to the chassis.
2.5 Press the two release tabs and pull the fan board toward the front of the server to disengage the fan board from the mushroom standoffs. There are eight mushroom standoffs in the chassis for the fan board.
2.6 Remove the fan board from the server chassis and place it on an antistatic mat.

3. Installing the fan board
3.1 Lower the fan board over the mushroom standoffs in the chassis floor.
3.2 Slide the fan board toward the rear of the server to engage the mushroom standoffs.
3.3 Reconnect the fan ribbon cable and the fan power cable between the paddle board to the fan board.
3.4 Reinstall the fan modules.
3.5 Reconnect the storage drive cables to the disk backplane.

4. Returning the system to operation.
4.1 Install the top cover.
4.2 Return the server to the normal rack position.
4.3 Reconnect the power cords to the power supplies and power on the server.
4.4 Verify that standby power is on, indicated by the Power/OK LED flashing on the front panel about two minutes after the power cords are plugged in.
4.5 Use a pen, or other pointed object, to press and release the recessed Power button on the storage controller front panel. The Power/OK LED next to the Power button lights and remains lit. SSH to the service processor (SP) and check appliance power state, show /SYS power_state. If status is off issue the "start SYS" command to power up the appliance.
4.6 You must follow the procedure for creating a service account on the SP and copying the Product Serial Number to the Fan Board found in Sun ZFS Storage 7X20 Appliance Field Service Guide.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Verify system has started, check the alerts to verify no new fan-alerts are generated.
