DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
OpenStorage systems experience , x64-hw Training.
TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes
TASK COMPLEXITY: 3
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
What: The fan cage assembly
Where: chassis S/N or name - to be added by SR-owner
Why: It's been determined that the FAN-cage assembly is defective by SR-owner
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
These procedures require that you handle components that are sensitive to static discharge. To avoid damage, ensure that you wear an antistatic wrist strap. When servicing or removing server components, attach an antistatic strap to your wrist and then to a metal area on the chassis. Following this practice equalizes the electrical potentials between you and the server.
This replacement requires a complete shutdown and power-off of the server. System should be powered off by customer prior to proceeding.
NOTE : For Clustered Systems
It is MANDATORY NOW THAT YOU UNPLUG THE CLUSTRON CABLES (UART0 and UART1 ) and take notice that these cables are crossover connected.
THEY WILL NEED TO BE REPLUGGED IN THE SAME WAY AFTER THE HW REPLACEMENT ACTION HAS BEEN COMPLETED.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Preparation to remove the fan board.
1.1 Attach an antistatic wrist strap
1.2 Power off the server
1.3 Remove the top cover
1.4 Remove all fan modules and all memory risers HINT: CRU Maintenance Procedures
1.5 Disconnect any cables plugged into the USB or video connectors on the front of the server
2. Remove the fan board:
2.1 Loosen the three captive screws connecting the front memory riser guide to the motherboard
2.2 Remove the two screws on each side of the outside of the chassis that hold the fan board unit in place
2.3 Unplug the fan board cable and power cables from motherboard
2.4 Remove the front memory riser guide by pulling it up and out of the chassis
2.5 Pull the fan board back and out of chassis
2.6 Remove the fan board cable and power cables from the faulty fan board unit.
3. Replace the Fan Board
3.1 Unpack the replacement fan board unit and place it on an antistatic mat
3.2 Plug the fan board cable and power cables into the fan board on the replacement fan board unit.
3.3 Insert the fan board unit into the chassis, moving it down and toward the front
3.4 Reposition the front memory riser guide, routing the fan board and power cable through the riser guide
3.5 Plug the fan board cable and power cable into the connectors on the motherboard
3.6 Tighten the three captive screws to hold the front memory riser guide in place
3.7 Secure the fan board unit in place by reinserting and tightening the two screws.
3.8 Reinstall all fan modules and memory risers
4. Return the server to operation:
4.1 Install the top cover
4.2 Return the server to the normal rack position.
4.3 Power on the server.
4.4 Verify that standby power is on, indicated by the Power/OK LED flashing on the front panel about two minutes after the power cords are plugged in.
4.5 Use a pen, or other pointed object, to press and release the recessed Power button on the storage controller front panel. The Power/OK LED next to the Power button lights and remains lit. SSH to the service processor (SP) and check appliance power state, show /SYS power_state. If status is off issue the "start SYS" command to power up the appliance.
4.6 You must follow the procedure for creating a service account on the SP and copying the Product Serial Number to the Fan Board found in Sun ZFS Storage 7X20 Appliance Field Service Guide.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Check the fault LED onto the server is off. Check no fault is present from the BUI, and clear any previous alerts regarding fans and fan-boards.
