Solution
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
OpenStorage systems experience , x64-hw Training
- TIME ESTIMATE: 75 minutes
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 3
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
What: A fan power board.
Where: chassis S/N or name FB-[0,1] to be added by SR-owner
Why: It's been determined that the FAN-board is defective by SR-owner
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
Caution - Ensure that all power is removed from the server before removing or installing fan power boards.
You must disconnect the power cables before performing this procedure.
You must remove both fan power boards to access the paddle card or to access the drives data cables in the Unified Storage systems.
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Note - If you are replacing a defective fan power board, remove only the fan modules that are necessary to remove the defective fan power board.
1. Preparation to remove the fan board.
1.1 Attach an antistatic wrist strap
1.2 Power off the server
1.3 Remove the top cover
1.4 Remove all fan modules and all memory risers
1.5 Disconnect any cables plugged into the USB or video connectors on the front of the server
2. Remove the fan board:
2.1 Remove the screws that secures the fan power board to the chassis.
2.2.Slide the fan power board to the left to disengage it from the paddle card.
NOTE - If the connector on the fan power board or paddle card shows any signs of charring or burn marks. You MUST NOT install the new part until a replacement paddle board is available to be replaced at the same time. Replacing only the replacement power-board if those signs are present will contaminate the new part, leading up to a new replacement shortly.
2.3 Remove the fan power board from the system and place it on an antistatic mat.
3.Installing a Fan Power Board
3.1 Lower the board into its mushroom standoffs in the chassis floor and slide the board to the right into the Paddle card.
3.2 Secure the board to the chassis.
3.3 Reinstall the fan modules.
4. Return the server to operation
4.1 Install the top cover.
4.2 Return the server to the normal rack position.
4.3 Power on the server.
4.4 Verify that standby power is on, indicated by the Power/OK LED flashing on the front panel about two minutes after the power cords are plugged in.
4.5 Use a pointed object, to press and release the recessed Power button on the storage controller front panel. The Power/OK LED next to the Power button lights and remains lit. SSH to the service processor (SP) and check appliance power state, show /SYS power_state. If status is off issue the "start SYS" command to power up the appliance.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Verify that no fan alerts are generated once the system has started up.
