How To Shutdown ZFS Storage Appliance in Cluster Environment In order to shutdown the storage appliance, you need to follow the steps below. TASKS SUMMARY
STEPS1) Knowing Cluster Configuration This section is prepared to avoid confusion in terminology since other types of cluster in the world use different terminology. Active-Standby configuration refers to the configuration when only 1 node of ZFS Storage Appliance (ZFSSA) cluster is serving your data the normal state. Sometimes people refer the node serving data as "Active node" and the node which is not serving data as "Standby" nodes. Sometimes people refer the "state" of the cluster nodes as "active" and "standby."
2) Knowing Cluster State In order to know the cluster status, run the following command from CLI. nas-7410-1a:> configuration cluster
nas-7410-1a:configuration cluster> show Properties: state = AKCS_OWNER description = Active (takeover completed) peer_asn = 365ed33c-3b9d-c533-9349-8014e9da0408 peer_hostname = nas-7410-1b peer_state = AKCS_STRIPPED peer_description = Ready (waiting for failback) "state" indicates the status of the node you are running the command. The status of the nodes can be as follows. THIS NODE OTHER NODE Condition -------------- -------------- --------- AKCS_CLUSTERED AKCS_CLUSTERED Both nodes are running in normal condition. AKCS_OWNER AKCS_STRIPPED THIS NODE has all the resource and and is serving data. The other node is in stand-by and have no resource. AKCS_STRIPPED AKCS_OWNER THIS_NODE has no resource but another node serves data. AKCS_OWNER rebooting Another node is rebooting and THIS NODE has all resources. AKCS_ONWER unknown THIS NODE does not know the partner.
If the status of both heads DO NOT agree, you may be experiencing a problem with cluster. DO NOT PROCEED and contact to Oracle Support for advise.
3) Shutdown the stand-by head In case THIS NODE is on AKCS_OWNER state, shutdown another head first. For example, for instance, (Notice, it is 7410-1b, NOT 1a) N.B.
1) It is user's responsibility to stop applications or close open files they are using before the shutdown of the heads. Please verify if you can shutdown from your application perspective before following the procedure. 2) In case of active-active configuration (meaning each head has at least one storage pool), you can choose the node to shutdown if both heads have the status of AKCS_CLUSTERED. You can do a take-over to move all the resource, but it will cause another node to reboot. Therefore, you can chose either head first.
nas-7410-1b:configuration cluster> cd /
nas-7410-1b:> maintenance system poweroff This will turn off power to the appliance. Are you sure? (Y/N)
4) Shutdown the active head nas-7410-1a:configuration cluster> cd /
nas-7410-1a:> maintenance system poweroff This will turn off power to the appliance. Are you sure? (Y/N)
5) Shutdown the JBOD After confirming both heads are shutdown, you can turn off the JBOD.
