Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)

X4170, X4270, or X4275 Trained.

TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

Need access to the ILOM.   System can be powered on.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

After replacing a system board, you may need to reprogram the serial number.

ILOM 2.x

- Need to be logging on as user sunservice to reaching Linux prompt
- Service Mode password is the same as the root password
Note: Login as 'sunservice'
- servicetool (example below)

Usage: servicetool OPTIONS

OPTIONS:

--board_replaced=BOARD update FRU information for BOARD after it has been replaced
--fru_product_part_numb er write a new product part number to mainboard and pdb FRUs
--fru_product_serial_numb er write a new product serial number to mainboard and pdb FRUs
--fru_chassis_serial_numb er write a new chassis serial number to mainboard and pdb FRUs
--fru_chassis_part_numb er write a new chassis part number to mainboard and pdb FRUs
--fru_asset_tag write a new asset tag to mainboard and pdb FRUs
For example:

(flash)root@SUNSP00 1E68 1E39FB:~]# servicetool --fru_product_serial_number

Servicetool is going to update the mainboard FRU
product serial number.

Do you want to continue (y|n)? y

When entering values, do not use quotes; If you require embedded
quotes, escape them with three backslashes; e.g. \\\"

What is the new product serial number? 0123456789

The product serial number has been updated.

The new serial number is: "0123456789"

Updating FRUs... done

ILOM 3.x - Need entering escalation mode to reaching Linux prompt

How to enter Escalation mode

A new user has to be created to assign role 's' as root cannot have this role (Roles: a=Admin,u=userManagement,c=console,r=Reset,o=ReadOnly,s=Service).

An example password looks like:

MODE :   escalation
VERSION :   3.0.2.50
SERIAL :   BEL074008D

PAL HEWN EGG JOHN AVON CLAD FLAT STAY LEEK DRAB MIST LENS COW SAN DIET BAR WAIL WAG WEAK NET CULT OWL YAWN TREE LED OMAN TIRE TWIT GWEN A

 Log into your system as the user with "s" privileges and run the following command, and enter the above 30 words:

-> set /SP/users/modechange/escalation/ escalation_password=true
Password:*** **** *** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** *** *** **** *** **** *** **** *** **** *** **** **** *** **** **** **** **** *
Short form password is:  NIP  TRIM MOP

->

 This will create a shorter 3 word password, which is then used to switch between modes:

-> set SESSION mode=escalation
Short Form Password:***  **** ***

A Linux # prompt indicates that you are in escalation mode.
Now you can use features available in service/escalation mode.

After you have updated the server serial number using the servicetool command, please reboot SP by reboot command in Linux # prompt.

When you are done with escalation mode, it is best to invalidate the password using this command:

-> set /SP/users/modechange/escalation/escalation_password=false
Mode password has been removed.

Log into the ILOM and run the command below to confirm if server serial number updated correctly.

-> show /SYS product_serial_number
