Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED: Experience with Sun ZFS Unified Storage Appliance

- TIME ESTIMATE: 45 minutes

- TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

- PROBLEM OVERVIEW
What: The Clustron card
Where: Chassis S/N: , Slot No. of the card/device to be inserted here by SR owner
Why : The Clustron card has been reported failed or faulted by the appliance.

REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE:  Does not apply to ZS3-2 as the Clustron is part of the mother board - use the following document:-

How To Replace A Sun ZFS Unified Storage Appliance 7x10 or 7x20 or ZS3 MotherBoard:ATR:1393542.1:3(Doc ID 1393542.1)

NOTE 2: For Clustered Systems

It is MANDATORY NOW THAT YOU UNPLUG THE CLUSTRON CABLES (UART0 and UART1 ) and take notice that these cables are crossover connected.

THEY WILL NEED TO BE REPLUGGED IN THE SAME WAY AFTER THE HW REPLACEMENT ACTION HAS BEEN COMPLETED.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?

*Please gather and note down specific PCI replacement procedure for the model of the ZFS  Storage you are working on before powering off head, or use the 2nd cluster node's "Online help" while this node is powered off.

*Please see "References section" at the bottom of this document for online help links so an offline copy can be saved of the relevant procedure.

*The applaince head must be powered off for this task. The customer may have shut the node down but power may still be applied so check that it is safe to power off.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Locate the Clustron Card.

2. Take ESD Precautions.

3. Check the Clustron Card part number for the appropriate system in the System Handbook and re-confirm. Note that the part number is different for SAS1 and SAS2 systems.

4. Take note of order of Clustron cables ( Label each cable if needed to ensure they are cabled correctly after replacement ).

5. Replace the Clustron as per instructions in the "Online Help Guide" under 'Maintenance - Hardware - PCI cards and Risers' ( for the specific platform ).

6. Reconnect Clustron cables in original locations.

7. Verify the replacement by powering on and checking the NAS head/node rejoins the cluster ( customer may have to confirm this)

CAUTION ! :  When working with ZS3 NAS servers, a careful removal technique is required to assure that the plug latch-lever is completely unlatched before attempting to withdraw the cable plug.

If cable plug is not completely unlatched withdrawing can cause damage to the card receptacle.  Access to the plug latch release mechanism is difficult with unaided fingers.

Recommendation is to use a small flat-bladed screw driver to depress the release lever while withdrawing the cable

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Confirm there are no faults reported in the appliance BUI and Cluster is rejoined. Mark Repaired" any prior faults related to Clustron card if required

PARTS NOTE:
Consult System handbook for appropriate model.
