Goal

How to Remove / Replace CAP Motor in L180/L700e/L1400 Library.

Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
Knowledge of the STK L-Series Libraries

- TIME ESTIMATE:  60 minutes

- TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
CAP (Cartridge Access Port) is not operational and motor needs to be replaced.

- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
Make sure the tape library and all drives are idle and not in use.
If the libraries are connected by a Pass-thru Port, make sure that both libraries are idle and not in use.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:
You will need a standard tool kit for replacement of the CAP motor assembly.
- Be sure to read the safety and ESD instruction in the Service Manual.

Refer to the STK L700x/L1400 Service Manual for complete instructions for removal / replacement of the CAP motor assembly.

Removal Process:
1. Remove the two CAP motor screws (Torx T15 driver).
2. Remove the Torx T25 cable clamp screws.
3. Disconnect the CAP more cable connector.
4. Remove the CAP belt from the motor pulley.
5. Remove the two CAP motor springs below the CAP motor with a needle-nose pliers.
6. Remove the CAP motor.

Replacement Process:
1. Install the mew CAP motor and using a needle-nose pliers, attach two springs below the CAP motor. 
    Be sure the CAP belt is placed on the CAP motor pulley and centered in the top channel.
2. Connect the CAP motor cable connector.
3. Replace the cables in the cable clamp.
4. Use a Torx T25 screw to attach the cable clamp to the CAP motor bracket.
5. Attach the two CAP motor screws using a Torx T15 driver.

This motor is considered a consumable item and can be discarded once replaced.


OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Return the system to operational state.  Make sure diagnostics have been run on the CAP to verify operation.
