Solution
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Knowledge of the SL24 library.
- TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 0
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
SL24 library is down level on firmware and must be updated.
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: The library needs to be offline to the system.
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. The system MUST BE IDLE during the firmware download process! No other programs should be running while this utility is being used.
Failure to do so may cause the devices being upgraded to fail or the system to crash.
Any other computers sharing the same I/O bus as the host system must be either disconnected or offline.
2. If any upgrade failures occur, do not continue upgrading devices.
For example, loss of power during download will result in damaged peripherals and require replacement.
If any failures occur, please collect the following log file:
"/var/adm/messages", and an explorer dump. Please forward these files to your service provider for analysis.
3. This firmware will only function on a StorageTek SL24 Autoloader.
4. Please READ instructions below completely BEFORE starting download procedure. Follow the procedures carefully. You may program stacked library configurations at the same time, however, you may not exit the utility until all libraries have completed the download process.

C.O Patch Installation and Usage Intructions
---------------------------------------------
1. General guidelines for upgrading:
STOP ALL APPLICATIONS. The system must be idle during the firmware upgrade process.
DISCONNECT or take OFFLINE any other computers sharing the same I/O bus as the host.
UPGRADE the tape library. Follow the given instructions in the procedure section below.
In case of any disruption or unforeseen events happening on the relevant bus during the firmware download process, it may be that the upgraded device becomes non-functional. In this event, it will be necessary to replace the device. This would happen as a result of an incomplete or corrupted firmware file being downloaded. Loss of power during the upgrade process would also damage the device.
REFER TO the StorageTek SL24 Tape Autloader and SL48 Tape Library User and Service Guide
for detailed instructions on how to perform this upgrade.
2. Procedure for SL24 Tape Autoloader Firmware Download:
Launch the Autoloader On-Board Remote Managment Interface (RMI) from a Web based browser by entering the IP address of the Autoloader in the browser address bar.
Login Account Type: Adminstrator
After entering the Adminstrator password, select the Sign In button
Select the Support tab at the top of the page.
Select the Firmware tab under the Support banner.
Caution: Before you perform the upload, make sure there are no processes or applications accessing the autoloader. If there are, shut down the process or application, or pause the operation, until the upload completes.
Use the Browse button to locate the firmware file (SUN_SL24_E.40.frm)
Select the Update button to start the firmware download.
Select the OK button when the Are you sure? message pops up on your screen.
On the left side of the screen, is a Download Progress bar.
A browser window will apprear that states:
Autoloader Reboot
Please wait while the system is rebooting.
This page refreshes after 140 seconds.
If the page doesn't refresh automatically press the "refresh" button on your browser.
If DHCP is enabled, it is possible that the system will get a new IP Address from the DHCP-Server.
IP address has to be verified on OCP and the new IP address has to be entered in the web browser.
The Login screen will reappear in your browser.
Login into the Autoloader (User or Administrator, you many need to login twice)
The new Autoloader f/w level will be listed under Identity tab / Autloader tab.
