FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Drive is non-functional and requires replacement.
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
Offline drive to OS and software application.
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Refer to the IBM LTO Setup, Operator and Service Guide for complete instructions on replacing a tape drive into a rack.

NOTE:
Under NO circumstances should tape drives be returned with Media still inside the drive. If a tape is stuck in a drive, review the Knowledge Base or contact Tape Hardware Support for instructions on how to remove the tape with an email to tapehw_ww@oracle.com include the SR/case number in the subject line of the email.
NOTE:
The R/R of the HP drive follows the basic same instructions. IBM just has better reference.
Removal of Drive:
1. Make sure drive is offline to software application and OS.
2. Power off drive.
3. Remove power and data cable from the drive.
4. Remove drive from enclosure.
5. Note the jumper settings on the back of drive for replacement drive.
Replacement of Drive:
1. “Unpack the Drive”.
2. “Power Off the Enclosure or drive depending on type of setup”.
3. “Set the SCSI ID or Arbitrated Loop Physical Address on the drive”.
4. “Mount the Drive into the Rack Enclosure as necessary”.
5. “Connect and Test Power to the Drive”.
6. “Connect the Internal Cable”.
7. “Run Drive Diagnostics using ITDT for IBM, LTT for HP, or SCSI Toolbox”.
8. “Connect the Enclosure’s External SCSI, SAS, or Fibre Channel Interface to the Server”.
9. “Configure the Drive to the Server, Switch, or Hub”.
10. "Repack failed drive and return via parts return process".
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Bring drive online to OS and software application. Verify functionality of drive.
