GoalDocument the process needed to load firmware in 9x40 and T10000 product lines. (Also see KB 2239060.1 for detailed instructions) SolutionUpgrading microcode to a tape drive is a disruptive process. Be sure to take the drive offline from the host before upgrading the microcode.
1. The latest drive microcode for the T9840D and T10000A/B/C/D drives is available for download on My Oracle Support (MOS) as a patch. For all other Enterprise tape drives (9840A/B/C, 9940A/B) please open a service request with Oracle StorageTek Tape support to have an FE upgrade the microcode. The VOP application can be launched with your PC directly attached to a drive, using a cross-over Ethernet cable and the default static IP; or, with your PC attached to the SDP private network, using a straight Ethernet cable. VOP Download and Update of Firmware
Once completed, verify firmware level via VOP. See the Virtual Operator Panel User's Guide details.
3. Tload is now available to load microcode on T10000A/B/C tape drives. This application allows a customer to upgrade microcode on T10000A/B/C tape drives over the data path. It is a command line based application that is easy to use and only requires that you have the code load file that you will be using for the upgrade available on the system. The current version of TLoad requires a Solaris or Linux operating system. It is packaged in with the tape drive microcode that is available for download on My Oracle Support. See Document ID 2107164.1 for further details.
Potential Code Load Problems
1) Trying to load the wrong microcode file for the drive model. This usually results in a FSC indicating that there is a problem with the code load file. 2) Corrupted code load file. If the code file fails on more than 1 drive then download the code again. Compare the byte count on the 2 code load files to see if they are different. Try to load the second file to a drive. 3) Drive is not offline. VOP will not open up the Config menu unless the drive is taken offline. Tload uses the data path and does not require the drive to be offline.
