Goal

SL3000 - Information on Redundant Electronics ( RE ) Conversion Bill.

Solution

The Conversion Bill instructions for the Redundant Electronics are attached to this KB.

The minimum code level for Redundant Electronics on the SL3000 is FRS_3.0. If the library being upgraded is not at FRS_3.0 or higher, then upgrade the code to the latest available firmware before starting this upgrade. The minimum code level for Redundant Electronics on the SL3000 is FRS_3.0. NOTE:
RE does NOT Support FC/SCSI - The RE feature only supports HLI (ACSLS/HSC) libraries.
FC/SCSI libraries or libraries with FC/SCSI partitions cannot have the Redundant Electronics feature installed. See the FRS-3.0 code notes to disable and remove the RE feature if converting a library to FC/SCSI or adding a FC/SCSI partition that was previously an HLI only library.

Go to http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19317-01/index.html and download the SL3000 Users Guide for operational information for RE.

See the attached SL3000 FRS-3.0 code release notes for more RE information. PTF guidelines and ACSLS supported versions.

Required minimum HSC PTF's are included in the microcode release notes.
Have the customer install the latest maintenance to their version of HSC and SMC.

Both HSC and ACSLS manuals describe how to configure the additional connections to the library.
Information about how to configure HSC/ACSLS (host interface documentation), go to:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/documentation/tape-storage-curr-187744.html

ACSLS - run the acsss_config or config acs utilities.

HSC - Add the new ip addresses to the LMUPATH parameter in PARMLIB, vary the ACS offline, activate the modified LMUPATH with the LMUPDEF command, and vary the ACS online.

Note: (30-Mar, 2018) In Reference to “SL3000 RE Conv Info.pdf”....

Revision to Step_8, note the original wording in the last sentence implied the FSE should power on the library but at  this step the library should already be powered on. Correction is as follows:

- After you have enabled the hardware feature, run the network clone command, and made the cable connections to the HBC-B card you are now ready to bring it up and check the operational status of the “A” & “B” side cards for Redundant Electronics support.
