Fix

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Knowledge of the SL8500 library hardware.

- TIME ESTIMATE: 90 minutes

- TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
SL8500 library Pass-thru Port is not functional.

- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
PTP needs to be taken offline from the library via SL Console.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Refer to the SL8500 Service Manual for complete information on how to remove/replace the Pass-Thru Port Mechanism (PTP).  It will include all Pictures, Notes, Cautions and Warning to assist with this process.

PTP Removal:
1. Lift the access panel from the Pass-thru Port frame and place it out of the work area.
2. Set the PTP mechanism power switch to OFF.
3. Disconnect the power cable and 2 Ethernet cables, one at a time.
    a. Inspect each cable for a label that matches the jack.
    b. Label any cable that is not clearly labeled.
4. If the PTP actuator is not retracted, grasp the outer portion of the drive belt and push it inward until the
    actuator is fully retracted.
5. Remove the shipping pin from the PTP frame in front of the mechanism and install it in the PTP actuator.
6. Press the latch lever release buttons, then rotate the locking levers outward to the unlatched position.
7. Slide out the PTP mechanism from the library and place it out of the work area.

PTP Replacement:

1. on the replacement PTP mechanism, make sure the locking levers are rotated outward (unlatched).
2. Slide the replacement PTP mechanism fully into the frame.
3. Press the locking levers inward until the locking tabs engage.  Pull slightly on the PTP mechanism to
verify  it is locked in position.
4. Remove the shipping pin from the PTP actuator and place it in the storage hole in front of the PTP
    mechanism.
5. Connect the power and Ethernet cables to the PTP mechanism.
6. Set the PTP mechanism power switch to ON and verify that the green LED comes on after about 45
    seconds.
7. Position the PTP access cover so the metal hooks engage with the frame, then let it drop into position.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
PTP needs to be brought back online via SL Console.  Customer should run a PTP operation between libraries to verify functionality.
