Goal

If you see errors like:

Check if the "ipmievd" service is enabled:

# svcs ipmievd

Solution

"ipmievd" is part of the IPMI tool package ("SUNWipmi" or "ipmitool").

The "ipmievd" is a daemon mainly intended for x86 systems and forwards events from the Service Processor's event log to the syslog facility.
On SPARC systems there is a different mechanism that forwards entries from the Service Processor's Event log to the Host's syslog facility and therefore "ipmievd" is not needed.

You can safely disable it on SPARC systems:

# svcadm disable ipmievd

The "ipmitool" command and the forwarding of events from the SP's event log will continue to work with "ipmievd" disabled (SPARC).

"ipmievd" is actually disabled by default on SPARC systems.
