Goal
Is the CAP door on the SL3000 kept unlocked by default, meaning whenever the button on the CAP door's frame is pressed, the CAP door rotates open, no matter whether the SL3000 is connected to mainframe or open system environment?

Solution
That is the correct behavior for an SL3000 configured as a FC/SCSI machine. As long as the CAP is not currently active with an Enter, Eject or Audit, it will be unlocked.
When it is set up for ACSLS / HLI connectivity, the CAP will only be unlocked when it receives a command from ACSLS or HSC (such as an ENTER). It will also be unlocked when it is in "Auto" mode and not active.
Note:
This behavior is only for the SL3000 when configured as a FC/SCSI library. The SL8500 only supports ACSLS/HLI and can't work like this so it doesn't apply. The SL3000 can support both types of connections.
