DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Knowledge of OEM tape drives and L20/40/80 STK libraries.
- TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Drive is defective and needs to be replaced.

- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
Back up the server before removing the drive.
If the drives are daisy-chained, stop all data processing on the channel to which the drives are connected before disconnecting the drives.
Make sure there is no activity on the SCSI bus before disconnecting the external SCSI cables.  Stop all processes on the host.
Make sure all signals are terminated at each end of the SCSI bus.  Do not mix single-ended and differential terminators.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Refer to the L40 or L80 Service Manual for complete instructions on how to remove / replace a tape drive from the library.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19188-01/CRCM2339/CRCM2339.pdf
This will include pictures, notes and cautions that are not provided below.

NOTE:
Under NO circumstances should tape drives be returned with Media still inside the drive. If a tape is stuck in a drive, review the Knowledge Base or contact Tape Hardware Support for instructions on how to remove the tape with an email to tapehw_ww@oracle.com include the SR/case number in the subject line of the email.

The directions below describe how to remove and replace the tape drive.
- Benchmark DLT1
- SDLT
- IBM LTO
- HP LTO
- Quantum LTO

Drive Removal:

1. Make sure that all activity involving the drive is stopped.
2. Open the drive access door by turning the door knobs to your left.
3. Disconnect the drive SCSI connector from the rear of the drive.
4. Disconnect the library-to-drive interface connector.
5. Disconnect the drive power cable.
6. Unlatch the drive tray by turning the latch knob all the way to your left.
7. Pull out the drive tray and place it on a flat, stable surface.
8. Turn over the drive tray and remove the 4 Torx screws.
9. Unplug the TTI and power connector from the rear of the drive.
10. Lift and remove the drive from the tray.

Bezel Replacement:
When removing the drives, make sure you remove the cartridge bezel from the drive and replace the bezel in the new drive FRU. The drive FRU does not ship with a cartridge bezel.
Should there be a problem with removing the front bezel, refer to the Service Manual for complete details on removal/replacement.  Each drive type has a different bezel and procedure.

Prior to replacement of the drive, verify that the jumpers match on the back of the drive with the drive being pulled out of the library.

Drive Replacement:

1. Turn over the replacement drive and place it on a flat, sturdy work surface.
2. Check the termination power jumper locations for the drive you replace.
3. Replace the TTI and power connectors.
4. Carefully slide the drive tray over the drive.
5. Using a Torx driver, attach the four screws on the bottom of the drive tray.
6. Holding the new drive, turn the knob all the way to your right.
7. Slide the replacement drive tray into the empty slot and tighten the drive tray latch by turning the knob all
    the way to your right.
8. Pull back on the tray to ensure that the latch is secure.
9. Connect the drive SCSI connector to the rear of the drive.
10. Connect the library-to-drive interface connector.
11. Connect to drive power cable.
12. At the rear of the library, close the drive access door and turn the door knobs all the way to the right.
13. Return the defective FRU according to the current logistics process.

Restoring Operation:

1. Make sure you installed and properly seated all the cards.
2. Make sure you installed all the cables and tightened all the connectors.
3. Make sure you secured all the cable strain reliefs.
4. Look in the library for loose parts, connectors, and tools.
5. Make sure you fully retracted the hand reach mechanism.
6. Close and lock the doors.
7. Place the power supply switches to the ON position.
8. Place the inline switches to the ON position.
9. Run Diagnostic tests.
10 Tell the customer the library is ready for use.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Bring drive online to the Server and software application.  Verify the drive can be seen and commands pass back and forth to the drive.
