GoalHow to Remove and Replace a Non-Functional Power Distribution Unit in a SL3000SolutionDISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED: Storagetek SL3000 Library. - TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes - TASK COMPLEXITY: 2 FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS: - PROBLEM OVERVIEW Defective PDU on an SL3000 Library (2N or N+1 configurations). - WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? Customer should have library offline to OS and application. - WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE: 2N PDU Power Configuration Removal and Replacement. With a 2N power configuration, one PDU can be replaced in a base drive or drive expansion module without taking down the library. To remove and replace one PDU in a base drive or drive expansion module with a 2n configuration: 1. Turn the defective PDU's circuit breaker to the OFF position. 2. Remove the power cable. 3. Remove the three T15 screws that attach the PDU to the module's frame. Retain the screws for placement on the new PDU. 4. Pull out the defective PDU. 5. Insert the new PDU. 6. Using the three T15 screws you removed, attach the PDU to the module's frame. 7. Insert the power cable. 8. Turn the new PDU's circuit breaker to the ON position. 9. Verify that the library initializes and all tape drives are operational. N+1 PDU Power Configuration Removal and Replacement. With a N+1 power configuration, the entire library must be powered-off, regardless of whether it is within a base drive or drive expansion module. To remove and replace one PDU in a base drive or drive expansion module with a N+1 configuration: 1. Have the operator issue the command to take the entire library offline. 2. If the defective PDU is within the base module: a. Press the electronics module assembly power switch to the OFF position. b. Turn the defective PDU's circuit breaker to the OFF position. c. Remove the power cable. d. Remove the T15 screws that attach the PDU to the module's frame. Retain the screws for placement on the new PDU. e. Pull out the defective PDU. 3. If the defective PDU is within the drive expansion module: a. Turn the defective PDU's circuit breaker to the OFF position. b. Remove the power cable. c. Remove the T15 screws that attach the PDU to the module's frame. Retain the screws for placement on the new PDU. d. Pull out the defective PDU. 4. Insert the new PDU. 5. Using the three T15 screws you removed, attach the PDU to the module's frame. 6. Insert the power cable. 7. Turn the new PDU's circuit breaker to the ON position. 8. Verify that the library initializes and all tape drives are operational. 9. Have the operator issue the command to place the library online. OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE - WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Verify library functionality via SL Console, verify drives and library online at host.
