REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: Shut down the system
- WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED?:
Powering Off the System and Removing the Left-Side Access Panel.
I. Power off the system and all the peripherals connected to it.
II. Turn the power switch on the back of the chassis to the Off position.
caution icon Caution - Failure to properly turn off the system before you start installing components can cause serious component damage.
III. To maintain system grounding, do not unplug the AC power cord from the back of the system unless the specific procedure instructs you to unplug it.
IV. Loosen the two captive thumbscrews located on the rear edge of the left side access panel
V. Slide the access panel approximately 1.5 cm toward the back of the workstation.
VI. Tilt the top edge of the panel out, then lift the panel upward.
VII. Carefully set the panel aside.
Removing the DVD Drive
1. Remove any media in the DVD drive
2. Follow the instructions in Powering Off the System and Removing the Left-Side Access Panel.
3. Remove the front bezel
4. Disconnect the cables from the back of the DVD drive
5. Push the drive retaining lever tab up to release the retaining hooks
6. Gently pull out the DVD drive from the front of the chassis.
7. Place the DVD drive on an antistatic surface.
Installing the DVD Drive
1. Remove the new DVD drive from its packaging.
2. Lifting the front end slightly, slide the 5.25-inch DVD drive into the drive bay until the holes on the side align with the hooks on the drive retaining lever.
3. To lock the drive in the drive bay, rotate the drive retaining lever downward.
4. Verify that the drive is captured by the retaining hooks.
5. Connect the SATA, power, and jumper cables to the back of the DVD drive. Refer to the cabling diagram in the service label on the side of the chassis for information about correct cable routing.
6. Replace the front bezel and left side cover of the workstation.
7. To close the system, perform the steps in To Prepare for Service.
- WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:
AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Verify that CD and/or DVD media is recognized by the installed operating system when inserted.
