DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
- TIME ESTIMATE: 20 minutes
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Removing and Installing a Hard Drive Filler and Hard Drive Assembly

- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

Then power down the system and disconnect the Power Cord.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1 For the drive slot in which you want to install a removable hard drive, rotate the release lever on the front of  the filler to disengage the hook and extend the handle.
2 Use the handle to pull the filler out of the slot.

Remove
1 Power off the server. See How to Power Off the Server.
Note - If you are using an integrated-mirroring (IM) configuration, you do not need to power off the server before removing a hard drive, but you must ensure that the drive is disconnected from the OS and ready to be removed.
2 On the drive you want to remove, push the release button to open the latch and extend the latch to its fully-open position.
Note - The latch is not an ejector. Do not bend it too far to the right. Doing so may damage the latch.
3 To remove the drive, us the handle to pull the drive out of the drive slot.
4 If you are replacing the drive, go to How to Install a Removable Hard Drive Assembly.
5 If you are not replacing the drive, install a filler panel. See How to Install a Hard Drive Filler.
6 Power on the server. See How to Power On the Server.

Install
1 Power off the server. See How to Power Off the Server.
2 Ensure that the latch on the hard drive assembly is in the fully open position.
To open the latch, press the latch release button on the front of the assembly.
3 Slide the drive into the drive slot until it is fully seated and flush with the front of the server.
4 Close the latch.
5 Power on the server. See How to Power On the Server reconfigure the disk into the operating system and mirrored configuration.
