How to Remove and Replace V440 System Board

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW
Faulty Mother Board
WHAT STATE SHOULD SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM FIX?
Note: Certain Motherboards require specific minimum firmware. An ALOM Upgrade may be necessary berfore motherboard replacement. Consult the SSH prior to replacing for any additional requirements.
- Motherboard 501-6910 requires ALOM >=1.5. Refer to FCO A0245-1.
- Motherboard 501-7343 requires ALOM >=1.5.4. (Refer to BugID 15291277 [SUNBT6335060])
- Motherboard 540-6336 requires ALOM >1.5 Refer to 1003595.1.
Data backup is not pre-requisite but is wise precaution.
Customer should conduct an orderly SW system shutdown.
Power down system & disconnect Power Cord.
WHAT ACTION DOES ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE
1. Power off server & remove power cables
2. Remove main cover
PCI Fan Tray
1. Remove long PCI cards installed in system
2. Loosen 2 captive screws securing crossbar to chassis
3. Remove crossbar from chassis
4. Disconnect PCI fan tray cable at P7 on connector board
5. Pull PCI fan tray up and out of system
Make sure to guide side tab on fan tray through notch in side of chassis
CPUs
1. Loosen 2 captive screws securing CPU/memory modules to CPU cage
2. Pull CPU/memory module from chassis by levers
PCI Card
1. Disconnect external cables attached to faceplate of PCI card
2. Disconnect internal cables connected to PCI card internal connectors
3. Remove 1 screw securing card to system back panel
4. Pull PCI card from its slot
ALOM Card
1. Disconnect external cables attached to faceplate of ALOM card
2. Remove 1 screw securing card to system back panel
3. Pull ALOM card from slot
System Board
WARNING !
When removing or installing systemboard be careful not to damage
rear flex circuit because this part is no longer available & if it
is damaged only option is to replace whole system
Note:
Sun Fire[TM] V440: Caution required when replacing systemboard (Doc ID 1002184.1)
1. Remove power supplies from motherboard connectors, leave in bays
2. Slide CPU fan tray forward to free CPU cage
a. Loosen captive screw on CPU fan tray
b. Slide fan tray forward, over DVD-ROM cable, as far as hooks allow
3. Disconnect AC inlet assembly from back of chassis
a. Disconnect P13 rear LED power cable end from its connector on CPU side of chassis, lay cable out of way
b. Loosen captive screws securing AC inlet faceplate to back of chassis
c. Press on faceplace of AC power inlet to dislodge it from chassis
d. Disconnect two reusable tie wraps securing AC power cords to CPU side of chassis
e. Lay AC power inlet on CPU cage
4. Remove I/O faceplace
a. Disconnect external cables attached to motherboard
b. Remove 3 screws securing I/O faceplate to chassis
Pull faceplate off system & set aside
5. Disconnect P5 connector board power cable end at P5 on motherboard
6. Disconnect P1 DVD-ROM cable end at P1 on motherboard lifting up connector ejector levers as far as they go
7. Disconnect P3 SCSI data cable end at P3 on motherboard
8. Loosen 10 captive screws securing motherboard to chassis
Note! Do not unscrew captive screws completely
9. Remove motherboard from chassis at an angle to clear chassis sides
Installation is reverse of above procedure

WHAT ACTION DOES CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE
Boot system & ensure that full System functionality is achieved
