How to Remove and Replace V440 Card Reader

Solution

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
Nothing beyond basic partner training to be qualified as a Sun Service Delivery Partner.

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

*FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS*

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Card Reader failed.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Ensure that the system configuration card is not removed before system is brought down.

Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge

Replace the part following the steps below, reference the service manual below:

Remove the defective part:

1.Power off the server.
2.Ensure that the server is properly grounded.
3.Remove the power cords from the back of the system

4. Disconnect the cables from the SCC card.
5.Remove the system configuration card. Place the system configuration card aside.

Install the new part:

1.Insert the new configuration card reader board
2.Snap the new reader board firmly into place.
3.Reconnect the system configuration card reader cables.
4.Reconnect the power cord and turn the system on.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
