How to Remove and Replace V240 Power Supply
Solution

WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED:
No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure

REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Power Supply Failure
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
For a redundant power supply configuration, the customer should take normal precautions to backup data and notify users of the maintenance, but the system does not need to be shut down.
For a single power supply configuration, the customer should take normal precautions to backup data, notify users of the maintenance and that the system will be powered down. The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.
WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED:
Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge
Remove the Power Supply.
Note – The Sun Fire V240 server has dual redundant power supplies. You can swap one power supply while the other one is still running.
For information on removing a power supply unit while the server is in operation, refer to the Sun Fire V210 and V240 Servers Administration Guide.
1.Power off the server ONLY if single power supply configuration and go to step 2.
If the V240 has dual redundant power supplies. You can swap one power supply while the other one is still running.
At the ALOM prompt, type:
sc> removefru -y PSx
Where x is the power supply unit identifier, 0 or 1.
When the blue ok to remove LED lights on the back of the power supply unit, goto step2
2.Disconnect the power cable.
3.Pull down the lever on the back of the power supply unit.
4.Slide the PSU out of the server's chassis by pulling on the PSU lever
Replace the power supply:
1.Locate the replacement PSU in the PSU bay.
2.Slide the PSU into the server until it attaches (seats) to the power distribution board inside.
3.Press the lever until it clicks.
4.Power the server back on if necessary.
If necessary, and only in a dual redundant PSU configuration, and the blue ok to remove led remains on, you 'may' need to perform the following Alom command:
sc> poweron PSx
Where x is the power supply unit identifier, 0 or 1.
CONFIRM THE FIX BY:
1. Check that PSU LEDs set to: Amber Off, Green On
2. Check the PSU status and presence via ALOM
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN the SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
If the replacement was a hot swap on a redundant configuration, the system should be operational and need no further work.
If the replacement was in a system with a single power supply, restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
