How to Remove and Replace V440 System Configuration Card

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
Nothing beyond basic partner training to be qualified as a Sun Service Delivery Partner.

TIME ESTIMATE:  15 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Configuration card failed.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge

Replace the part following the steps below, reference the service manual below:

Remove the defective part:

1.Power off the server.
2.Ensure that the server is properly grounded.

3. Disconnect power cord from the back of the system

4. Locate the SCC reader to the left of the power button.

5. Pull the security post out of its position.
6.Remove the system configuration card. Place the system configuration card aside.

Install the new part:

1.Insert the new configuration card into the card reader at the left of the power button.
2.Insert the security post into position
3.Reconnect the power cord and turn the system on.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
