No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4170, X4270 DVD/USB Module needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

(Note, if the x86 server is part of an Exadata V2 Engineered System, there is no DVD.  In that case, this document would only pertain to the USB device on the x86 server).

The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.

Note: If this server is part of an Exadata, please follow shutdown instructions in Section 1 of DOC ID: 1539451.1


- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Remove media from the drive

2. Powering off the system

3. Remove the disk drive located under-right position of the DVD drive (HDD7 for X4170, HDD13 for X4270)

4. Remove the DVD drive from the storage drive cage

5. Install new DVD drive into the storage drive cage

6. Powering on the system

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Check for full system functionality
