General Sun X86 servers hardware knowledge.

A technician needs to be sent onsite to perform the replacement.

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Replace a faulty fan board

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?
This replacement can not be performed with the system being online.
This replacement implies a complete shutdown and poweroff of the server.
Replacement during a maintenance window is required.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
A. Removal of the faulty fan board
A.1 Power off the server. Recommendation is to leave this to the customer.
A. 2. Disconnect the power cords from the power supplies.
A.3.Pull out the server out from the rack : be careful about all connected cables.
Check they have enough length for this operation. If it necessary to unplug any cable,
make sure there is a wrriten down diagram prior to unplugging the cable.
A.4. Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
A.5 Remove the top cover.
A.6. Remove the fan modules.
A.7. Remove the screw that secures the fan power board to the chassis
A.8. Slide the fan power board to the left to disengage it from the paddle card.
A.9. Remove the fan power board from the system and place it on an antistatic mat. Write down p/n and s/n

B. Installation of the new fan board

B.0 Write down both p/n and s/n of the new part (if available)
B1. Lower the board into its mushroom standoffs in the chassis floor and slide the
board to the right into the paddle card.
B.2. Secure the board to the chassis with the same screw that was removed in step A.7.
B.3. Plug the fan modules back to their original locations.
B.4. Put the top cover back.
B.5. Slide the server back into the rack. Plug back all the unpluggued cables following the diagram.
Make sure the serial cable is pluggued into your PC to observe the boot sequence of the SP using the serial line.
B.6. Reconnect the power cords to the power supplies.
B.7. Power on the server : pushing the button or using the relevant SP commands.
B.8 Connect to the SP using the BUI. Browse the relevant section to state the fault on the fan board is cleared.
Check the temperatures and monitor them over, at least, 10 minutes after complete boot up of the host.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot up of the server.
Check the fault LED onto the server is off. Check no fault is present from the BUI.
Check and monitor temperatures.
Use the component tab to check any fault.
