Solution
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
SUN StorEdge 6x80 Array Install/Config & Maintenance training
- TIME ESTIMATE: 150 minutes
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 3
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Backup Device on 6580/6780 has been determined as failed.
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
*Array RAID Controller identified should have been placed offline by the customer
*The Blue led on the controller holding the CBD should be lit
*7-Segment Disp. should be flashing with one of the following codes, indicating that the controller is offline:
SE+ dF+ dash+ CF+ Fx (where x is the slot that's failed)
OS+ OL (held in reset)
SE+ 88+ (held in reset)
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Before beginning the repair procedure below, deactivate ASR temporarily so that additional Service Requests are not created.
After completing the repair procedure, reactivate ASR. Refer to <Document 1508403.1> ASR Deactivation / Reactivation via My Oracle Support.
1. Verify that the controller is offline with the customer, or by checking the status using SANtricity.
2. Use the CAM service advisor web page on the PTS site to get access to the instructions for physically replacing a failed CBD.
Product Documentation
WARNING!!
The controller can only be removed for 15 minutes due to cooling issues. Suggest setting a timer for 10 minutes. If the alarm goes off, put the cover plate back on the controller, and insert into the module for 5 minutes. Even with the CBD missing, this
allows the module to cool, but the controller will not boot.
3. On insertion of the controller, review the Seven Segment display for any additional codes.
If SE+ L8+ dash+ CF+ Fx(repeating), the CBD in the slot you replaced is loose OR is of the wrong type.
If SE+ 88+(repeating), have the customer online the controller using the service advisor.
If 01(static), the controller is booting, wait 10 minutes or call TSC.
If 99(static), the controller is optimal.
Report blinking codes other than the above to the TSC.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
1. alarms for Cache Backup Device Failed are no longer present.
2. alarms for Controller is Offline, are no longer present. (online controller)
3. alarms for Not on Preferred Path are addressed by redistributing the volumes
4. controller stays in an optimal state for longer than 5 minutes
5. CBD status is OK/Optimal
6. If applies, reactivate ASR.
