Solution
CAP PROBLEM OVERVIEW: How to Remove and Replace a Hard Disk Drive and Carrier.
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED?
ESD Awareness and basic hardware competence
Task Complexity: 0
Time Estimate: 90 minutes
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?
o If you are not using an integrated-mirroring (IM) configuration, you must power off the server before removing an HDD; it is not necessary to remove the cover. Power off the system.
o If you are using an IM configuration, start with the next step.
o Squeeze the release latch and carefully swing the arm to the left as far as it will go.
o Grasp the carrier bezel with both hands and carefully pull the carrier out of the drive bay.
o Reinsert the HDD and carrier into the server.
o Note - If you are installing a new HDD, rather than replacing an already installed HDD, you will need to remove the empty carrier from the drive cage before installing the new HDD.
To Install the HDD and Carrier
o Squeeze the release latch and carefully swing the arm to the left as far as it will go.
o Grasping the body of the drive in both hands, carefully guide the connector end of the carrier into the drive bay, sliding the carrier into the bay until the arm engages and partially closes itself.
o Push the arm forward and latch it to lock the carrier in place.
7. WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM
TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?
Power on the server, or re-synchronize any IM volumes.
