PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
System Board failure.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

I) - Removing the Motherboard Tray Assembly
1. Power off the system, open and position the chassis, and remove the access panel.
2. Disconnect all external cables from the back panel.
3. If necessary, remove the PCI cards.
4. Disconnect the following power and signal cables from the corresponding motherboard connectors and set them out of the way of the motherboard.
5. Turn the motherboard latch 90 degrees counterclockwise.
6. Move the cables out of the way.
7. Using the handles on the tray assembly, tilt the motherboard to one side and lift it until it is free of the chassis.
8. Place the motherboard on an antistatic mat.

II) - Installing the Motherboard Tray Assembly
1. Remove the new motherboard tray assembly from its antistatic package and place it on an antistatic mat.
2. Move all cables out of the way.
3. Align the tray assembly’s rear panel connectors with the matching holes in the rear panel.
4. Gently lower the tray assembly while tilting it down.
5. Align the tray assembly so that the hooks fit into the holes of the tray.
6. Turn the tray assembly latch 90 degrees clockwise to secure the motherboard.
7. Connect the cables to the corresponding motherboard connectors.
8. Install the PCI cards.
9. Inspect the motherboard to verify the following:
     ■ All cable connections are tight and cable clips are secured.
     ■ All cables are routed correctly, where they will not interfere with other equipment.
     ■ DIMMs are installed properly.
     ■ PCI cards are seated and secured properly.
     ■ If you have a graphics accelerator with a power cable, ensure that the power cable is connected to the motherboard.
10. Install the side cover and the access panel, power on the system, and verify the installation.


OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

On initial power on, there is a chance the BIOS CMOS settings could be invalid/incorrect. The following steps should be followed to set the CMOS values.

1. After turning the system power on, press F2 during system board startup.
2. In the Main menu, use the keyboard arrow keys to highlight the time and date and set them to the customer's preference. The plus, minus, or spacebar keys can be used to change the clock values.
3. Use the keyboard arrow keys to access the Exit menu.
4. Use the keyboard arrow keys highlight the "Load Setup Defaults" choice. Press the Return or Enter key, then press the Return or Enter key again to confirm the action.
5. Use the keyboard arrow keys to highlight the "Exit Saving Changes" selection, an press the Return or Enter key twice to accept the Setup Configuration and reboot the server.
Once the server has booted up, restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
