Fix
CAP PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Replace chassis midplane
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Sun StorEdge 3000 Series Training
TASK COMPLEXITY: 3
TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
It is recommended to have sccli installed on technician's laptop and a current se3k extractor available
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? The host and array should be shutdown. Prior to shut down, array health should be confirmed, and a current backup and se3k extractor should have been taken. In addition, do the following:
sccli> show configuration <backup-before-operation text file name>
sscli> show configuration --xml <backup-before-operation xml file name>
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
This procedure requires the attached host to be cleanly shutdown
DO NOT FORGET TO cleanly shutdown disk array with a sccli> shutdown controller
JBOD/RAID midplane differences : basically procedures are similar. Differences being on the components : RAID version comes with one or two controllers and RAID IO module consists of 6 SCSI connectors. JBOD comes without any controller and a 4-connector version. JBOD version does NOT require steps asking use of sccli commands.
Operations consists of 2 major steps :
Care in preparatory steps is essential.
Recommendation is either to have stickers, paper or labels to write down original component locations (for example , disk slot locations).
0. Prepare sufficient work space : best is a large table, observe ESD care, prepare room for all internal components in disk array and there lots of them : disks, PSUs, controllers, Raid IO module, EMUs.
1. shutdown disk array using sccli> shutdown controller
2. make a clear wiring diagram of every cable connected to the back of disk array (origin & destination)
3. remove power cords
4. BEST is to remove every component from old array and IMMEDIATELY plug it into same location into new chassis
5. Proceed this way for all components
6. If necessary, rack new chassis with all components plugged in
7. replug all SCSI cables into same location/connector as original configuration
8. Install serial connection and RJ45 connections to laptop
9. Plug power cords
10. Observe boot sequence, CTRL-L to refresh screen (default serial speed is 38400 not usual Sun setting of 9600 !)
11. Once disk array boot is complete, use following sccli commands to save current configuration
sccli> show configuration <backup-after-operation text file name>
sscli> show configuration --xml <backup-after-operation xml file name>
12. Compare TEXT files to check differences : differences may occur such as date and s/n on midplane (!).
Pay attention to SCSI channels definition, LD/LV configuration and logical partitions .
These are key information to check.
13. If configuration checks OK, then proceed, if necessary with host(s) boot.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
