GoalHow to Replace a Sun Ultra 27 Workstation System BoardSolutionDISPATCH INSTRUCTIONSWHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED: Sun Ultra 27 Product Knowledge/Training TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes *FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS* PROBLEM OVERVIEW: CPU Module failure. WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? N/A WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE: REMOVING THE MOTHERBOARD 1. Power off the workstation. 2. Remove the left-side access panel. 3. Gently lay the system on its right side on a stable, nonslip surface. 4. Remove the fan assembly. 5. Remove any PCIe cards installed on the motherboard. 6. Remove the DIMMs from the motherboard. 7. Remove heat sink and CPU from the motherboard. 8. Disconnect and label all cables attached to the motherboard. 9. Remove the eight Phillips screws that fasten the motherboard to the chassis. 10. Lift the motherboard away from the chassis. INSTALLING THE MOTHERBOARD 1. Remove the new motherboard from its protective antistatic packaging. 2. Position the motherboard so that the back panel I/O connectors (audio and USB ports) are on the upper left. 3. Place the motherboard in the chassis on top of the standoffs. 4. Slide the motherboard toward the chassis back panel until the I/O ports on the upper left side of the motherboard engage the opening in the chassis back panel and the screw holes in the motherboard align with the screw holes in the standoffs. 5. Secure the motherboard to the chassis using the nine Phillips-head screws. 6. Connect the system cables to the motherboard. 7. Install the system fan. 8. Install the CPU and heat sink. 9. Install the DIMMs. 10. Install any PCIe cards. 11. Verify that all system components are securely installed or connected. 12. Close the workstation and prepare for operation. OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
