How to Replace a Sun Fire X2250 Motherboard.
Solution
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
Nothing beyond basic partner training to be qualified as a Sun Service Delivery Partner.
TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
The customer should conduct an orderly software and system shutdown.
System power off is required.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Power off the system and remove the cover.
2. Remove the PCIe card riser assembly installed on the motherboard.
3. Disconnect all cables attached to the motherboard.
4. Remove the four screws from the heatsink (4 screws per heatsink installed).
5. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the seven Phillips screws that fasten the motherboard to the chassis.
6. Using a 5-mm nut driver, remove the screws attaching the serial connector to the chassis.
7. Pull the motherboard away from the chassis.
8. Remove the CPU and memory modules.
9. Center the motherboard on the chassis so that the screw holes in the motherboard align with the screw holes on the chassis.
11. Secure the seven Phillips screws that fasten the motherboard to the chassis. Torque screws to 8-9 inch-pounds.
12. Using a 5-mm nut driver, secure the screws attaching the serial connector to the chassis.
13. Replace the CPU and DIMMs as necessary.
14. Replace the PCIe card riser assembly and air duct.
15. Reconnect all internal system cables.
16. Replace the system cover.
17. Replace any external cables and power on the server.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Apply power to the system.
Once the ILOM is booted, log in.
Start the console and monitor the POST and boot process to ensure that the replacement process has been successful.
