DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED?: No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure

REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: PCI card failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

To prepare the server for PCI card removal. Proceed with the following steps:

Powering Off the Server
Disconnecting Cables From the Server
Removing the Server From the Rack
Performing Antistatic Measures
Removing the Top Cover
Removing the PCI Mezzanine Assembly

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED?:

Removing PCI-X and PCIe Cards
1. To remove the PCI air duct (slots 0-3 only): Lift it straight up
2. Release the PCI card release tab by pulling it up and to the left.
3. Remove the PCI card (Carefully lift it straight up)

Installing PCI-X and PCIe Cards
1. Insert the PCI card filler panel in the appropriate slot.
2. Secure the PCI card release tab.
3. Replace the PCI air duct (slots 0-3 only).

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
   * If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults.
   * If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, then the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
