How to remove and replace V480 - V490 DVD
Solution
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Field training in Sun Fire V480/V490 Server
- TIME ESTIMATE: 40 min
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 1
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
DVD-ROM drive failed
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution. The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.
Note:
Use max post only when searching for IO Controller issues, Fatal Resets, and Unrecoverable Errors(UEs) that Solaris is unable to properly diagnose. If diag-level is set to max at OBP, confirm with customer that if can be moved to the factory default of min.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge.
1. Shutdown Solaris
2. Poweroff the system
3. Slide the system out of the cabinet
4. Remove the PCI Access Pannel
5. Remove Fan Tray 1
6. Remove the Removable Media Assembly (RMA)
7. Remove the RMA cable
8. Remove the four mounting screws securing the DVD-ROM drive to the RMA bracket
9. Slide the failed DVD-ROM drive off the RMA bracket
10. Slide a good DVD-ROM drive onto the RMA bracket
11. Attach the four mounting screws securing the DVD-ROM drive to the RMA bracket
12. Install the RMA cable
13. Install the RMA
14. Install the Fan Tray 1
15. Install the PCI Access Panel
16. Slide the system into the cabinet
17. Power on the system
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Customer Should Verify DVD functionality in Solaris
