SolutionSun Storage 7000 Unified Storage System: How to Apply Deferred Updates When a zpool has been upgraded attempting to revert back to a previous version may result in undefined behaviour. To prevent this the zpool upgrade is not done by default during an upgrade of the appliance kit. Instead you will be given an option to install this automatically during the upgrade, or at a later date. Hence these updates are known as a deferred updates. Deferred updates are not always just zpool version upgrades, other parts of the software stack that may prove problematical to roll back from may be delivered in deferred updates.
NOTE: There is no impact to the running system (performance, or otherwise) when applying deferred updates.
A list of deferred updates delivered in appliance kit versions so far can be found here: https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E79446_01/html/E79459/goxdn.html#scrolltoc
You can apply the deferred updates at any time after the upgrade by simply going to the "maintenance -> system -> updates" view. A list of the deferred updates available will be shown beneath the appliance kit version, each will have an "APPLY" button next to them, clicking this will apply all the available updates.
However zpools will only be available to one head at a time so in the case where there are pools active on both heads you must check the list of available deferred updates on each head and apply the available list on each.
