FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4275 Disk Backplane needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

If the system is still up and functioning, customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.

Note: If this server is part of an Exadata, please follow shutdown instructions in DOC ID: 1188080.1


WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Powering off the system and disconnect the power cords from the system

2. Remove the top cover

3. Remove the fan module

4. Remove the fan power board

5. Remove the storage disk expander card

6. Remove the disk backplane

7. Install new disk backplane

8. Install the storage disk expander card

9. Install the fan power board

10. Install the fan module

11. Install the top cover

12. Connect the power cords and power on the system

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Boot up system and verify full functionality
