How to Replace a Sun Fire X4275 Power Distribution Board.

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4275 Power Distribution Board needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

If the system is still up and functioning, customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.

Note: If this server is part of an Exadata, please follow shutdown instructions in DOC ID: 1188080.1


WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Follow standard ESD procedures
1. Power off the server and unplug (REMOVE) the power cords from power supplies
2. Remove the top cover
3. Remove the motherboard assembly
4. Remove the power supplies by grasping the handle, pressing the release latch and pulling the power supply
5. Disconnect the top chassis intrusion switch cable from the Power Distribution Board
6. Disconnect the Power Distribution Board ribbon cable that connects the Power Distribution Board to the power supply unit backplane
7. Remove the 4 screws at the bottom of the Power Distribution Board
8. Remove the 5 screws at the top of the Power Distribution Board
9. Using the bus bar pull the Power Distribution Board bus bar assembly to the left, away from the connector breakout board
10. Lift the Power Distribution Board bus bar assembly up and out of the chassis
11. Install the replacement Power Distribution Board into the chassis (should fit/align with mushroom standoffs on chassi)
12. Slide the Power Distribution Board bus bar assembly to the right until it plugs into the connector breakout board
13. Install and tighten the 4 screws at the bottom of the Power Distribution Board
14. Install and tighten the 5 screws at the top of the Power Distribution Board
15. Reconnect the Power Distribution Board ribbon cable
16. Reconnect the top cover chassis intrusion switch cable to the Power Distribution Board
17. Re-insert the power supplies and ensure they align correctly in the bay and lock in place
18. Re-install the motherboard assembly
19. Replace the main cover
20. Re-connect the power cords

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot up system and verify full functionality
