How to Replace a Sun Fire X4275 Memory DIMM.

Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure

TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4275 Memory DIMM needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

If the system is still up and functioning, customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.

Note: If this server is part of an Exadata, please follow shutdown instructions in DOC ID: 1188080.1


WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Powering off the system and disconnect the power cords from the system

2. Remove the top cover

3. Pressing the FAULT REMIND button to identify the location of the faulty DIMMs

4. remove the faulty DIMMs

5. Install the new DIMMs

6. Install the top cover

7. Connect the power cords and power on the system

8. Clear server DIMM faults

8-1. Confirm the server faults

-> Show /SP/faultmgmt

8-2. Clear the fault

-> set <Location> clear_fault_action=true

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Boot up system and verify full functionality

Note: If this server is part of an Exadata, please follow restart instructions in step 7 of DOC ID: 1188080.1


PARTS NOTE:

1.Install memory filler panel 350-1288 in all unused slots.

2.Install the first three DIMMs in CPU0 and CPU1 slots D8, D5, and D2.

3.Install the second three DIMMs in CPU0 and CPU1 slots D7, D4, and D1.

4.Use of the same DIMM size and speed is recommended for maximum performance.
