Solution

CAP PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Motherboard replacement

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
Trained in X6220 Platform

TASK COMPLEXITY: 3

TIME ESTIMATE: 180 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

Then power down the system and disconnect the Power Cord.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Power off server and remove server module from chassis

a. Press together and hold green ejector buttons

b. Open ejector levers by rotating them out from server module

c. Pull server module out. Put it on antistatic surface

2. Remove main cover: Press down on the cover release button, slide main cover toward rear of chassis, Grasp cover by rear edge and lift it

3. Remove following components

3.1 DIMMs : Rotate DIMM slot ejectors outward. The DIMM is partially ejected from socket. Lift DIMM straight up to remove it.

3.2 CPU and Heat Sink

a. Hold down on top of heatsink to prevent from tipping unevenly while you alternately loosen the four spring-loaded mounting screws

b. Twist heatsink slightly to lift it. Turn heatsink upside down and allow spring in each of the four mounting holes to fall into your hand

c. Pull the CPU socket lever slightly away from socket, Pivot the lever up, Open hinged plate that covers CPU, Lift CPU out of socket

3.3 HDD

a. Press button on face of HDD to release spring-loaded securing latch

b. Grasp securing latch and remove HDD from drive bay

3.4 SP board

a. Unfasten screw securing SP board retainer

b. Squeeze plastic standoff that protrudes through the SP board to press the standoff's locking tabs (If you have difficulty pressing locking tabs you can use a pair of long-nosed pliers.)

c. Raise SP board until is clear of locking tabs

d. Pivot front edge of SP board upward to disengage its connector from motherboard

NOTE: Always use the original serial number when replacing any blade. Do not program the serial number from the handle of the replacement.

SB replacement can lead to to a serial number of '00000000' which will break ASR if the SBs are not reprogrammed after replacement. In order to reprogram the serial number you will first need access into 'Service Mode' and this requires a long password which is obtained from our TSC backline. This 'Escalation' password is needed to reprogram the serial number of the system board.

An Escalation password (similar to service password) is valid for 48 hours, and is provided by our TSC backline. The following information is needed in order for the TSC backline to generate your temporary password granting access to Service Mode in order to reprogram the serial number.
You will initially need to provide the following information:
..ILOM Version? (see "version" output)
..Serial Number? (-> show /SYS [ or /CH ] product_serial_number )
..When you will be onsite? (How soon do you need this escalation password?)
Please refer to document 'x86_serial_number_10_min_1.1.2.pdf' for additional scope on reprogramming the serial number of the system board.

Installation is the reverse of this procedure
