PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4540 Power Distribution Board needs replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.
Then power down the system and disconnect the Power Cord.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1- Remove PDB
Power off server
Remove system controller
Remove all power supplies
From back of enclosure, remove power supply cover. Remove 2 screws on power supply cover. Pull cover toward rear of chassis and lift
Remove cable management arm (CMA) mounting plate (power supply filler panel) to access to one of screws that attaches PDB to chassis
Push back power supply swing door so you can access area behind the CMA mounting plate. Remove 4 screws that attach CMA mounting plate to bay
Remove the PDB. Remove disk drive access cover. loosen 3 captive screws that secure PDB to chassis.Put your fingers in the holes to pull the PDB up then out of its keyed openings from chassis standoffs
2 - Install new PDB
Align PDB so chassis standoffs protrude through its keyed openings, then slide PDB downward to lock it
Push down on edge of the board
Tighten three captive screws secure the PDB
Verify the disk drive access cover intrusion switch is functioning correctly and is not bent during installation of PDB
Reinstall CMA mounting plate
Reinstall the power supply cover. Align the mushroom-head pins with the indentations in the cover. This ensures that the intrusion switch is not blocked. For the locations of the mushroom-head pins Push down on the cover and then slide the cover forward into place Replace the two screws at the rear of the power supply cover.
Install or reinstall the power supplies. Align the power supply with the empty bay in the chassis. With the power supply handle in the down position, push the power supply into the bay. It will stop about three-quarters of the way in when it meets the connector on the PDB. Lift the power supply handle up until the power supply fully engages with the PDB (indicated when the thumb-latch clicks into place). The power supply should be flush against the chassis.
Reinstall the system controller
