DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4540 System Enclosure needs replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.
Then power down the system and disconnect the Power Cord.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Power off the server.
2. Remove the cable management assembly if necessary.
3. Remove the system controller.
4. Remove the power supplies.
5. Remove the fan modules.
6. Label the drives with adhesive notes (or another method) so that you will know where to reinstall the drives at the end of this procedure.
7. Remove all drives from the drive bays.
8. Remove old chassis from the rack.
Note: The new chassis does not include the PDB. It will need transferred from the old chassis. If needed see: How to Replace a Sun Fire X4540 Power Distribution Board (Doc ID 1318133.1)
9. Install the new chassis into the rack.
10. Reinstall all drives to the new chassis.
11. Reinstall the power supplies into the new chassis.
12. Reinstall the fan modules into the new chassis.
13. Reinstall the system controller into the new chassis.
14. Reinstall the cable management arm.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
PARTS NOTE:
Note - When you remove the drives from their bays, you must return each drive to the equivalent bay in the new chassis. Use an adhesive note or another method to temporarily label the drives before you remove them.
