DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:
Sun Fire X4500 Training

TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4500 Power Distribution Board needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.

System needs to be shutdown

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Power off the server.

2. Remove the system controller.

3. Remove all power supplies.

4. From the back of the enclosure, remove the power supply cover.

5. Remove the cable management arm (CMA) mounting plate (power supply filler panel).

6. Remove the PDB:

7.Install the new PDB:

8.Reinstall the CMA mounting plate.

9. Reinstall the power supply cover.

10.Install or reinstall the power supplies:

11. Reinstall the system controller.

12. Reinstall the disk drive access cover.

13. Reconnect AC power cords to the power supplies.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Boot system and test functionality. Monitor boot sequence and check prtdiag, fmdump, and dmesg.
