FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4440 Motherboard needs replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
* Power off the server.
* Disconnect the power cord (or cords) from the power supply (or supplies).
* Remove the server from the rack.
* Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
* Remove the top cover.
* Remove the mezzanine tray.
* Remove the air duct.
* Remove the PCIe cards and risers.
Helpful Hint: Note the location of expansion cards in the PCIe risers.
* If you are replacing the motherboard, remove the mezzanine tray supports.
Use a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver.
* Disconnect the PDB ribbon cable.
* Remove the 4 screws that secure the motherboard to the bus bar.
* Loosen the tray attachment screw next to the chassis midwall.
* Gently slide the motherboard to the rear and carefully lift it upward. Lift the motherboard tray out of the chassis.
Move the motherboard carefully.
* Place the motherboard assembly on an antistatic mat.
* Remove the CMOS motherboard Battery
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Installing the Motherboard Assembly
* Replace the CPUs, as required.
* Apply thermal grease.
* Install the CPU heat sinks on the motherboard assembly, as required.
* Place the motherboard tray into the chassis.
* Replace the motherboard CMOS battery with the old motherboard one.
Move the motherboard tray carefully.Gently slide the motherboard to the front and carefully set it down.
The blind mushroom standoffs must engage the keyhole slots in the tray - align the tray before moving the tray forward to latch.

Sun Fire X4440 Server Service Manual - See Servicing the Motherboard Assy, chapter 4.7

SB replacement can lead to to a serial number of '00000000' which will break ASR if the SBs are not reprogrammed after replacement. In order to reprogram the serial number you will first need access into 'Service Mode' and this requires a long password which is obtained from our TSC backline. This 'Escalation' password is needed to reprogram the serial number of the system board.
An Escalation password (similar to service password) is valid for 48 hours, and is provided by our TSC backline. The following information is needed in order for the TSC backline to generate your temporary password granting access to Service Mode in order to reprogram the serial number.
You will initially need to provide the following information:
..ILOM Version? (see "version" output)
..Serial Number? (-> show /SYS [ or /CH ] product_serial_number )
..When you will be onsite? (How soon do you need this escalation password?)
Please refer to document 'x86_serial_number_10_min_1.1.2.pdf'
for additional scope on reprogramming the serial number of the system board.
