How to Replace a Sun Fire X4440 Memory DIMM.

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure

TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4440 Memory DIMM needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

Power off server.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:


1. Preparing for Service

1.1 Power Off Server and Disconnect power cord(s) from the power supply(ies)

1.2 Slide server out of rack

1.3 Attach an antistatic wrist strap

Attach antistatic strap to wrist and then to metal area on chassis

1.4 Remove top cover

2. Removing DDR2 DIMMs

2.1 Lift up air duct

2.1 Press “Remind” button to activate DIMM status LEDs

2.2 Push down ejector tabs on each side of DIMM

2.3 Grasp top corners of the faulty DIMM and remove it from server

2.4 Place DDR2 DIMM on antistatic mat

3. Installing DDR2 DIMMs

3.1 Unpackage replacement DIMMs and place them on antistatic mat

3.2 Ensure ejector tabs are open

3.3 Push DDR2 DIMM into connector until the ejector tabs lock DIMM

4. Return Server to Operation

4.1 Install top cover

4.2 Slide server into rack

4.3 Reconnect power cord(s) to the power suppl(ies). Verify AC Present LED is lit

4.4 Power on the server

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Restart system and have System administrator verify functionality of system.
