FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4440 Drives Cage needs replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Caution - Ensure that all power is removed from the server before removing or installing the drives cage. You must disconnect the power cables before performing this procedure.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Caution - Never attempt to run the server with the covers removed. Hazardous voltage present.
Removing the Drives Cage
1. Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
When servicing or removing server components, attach an antistatic strap to your wrist and then to a metal area on the chassis.
2.Prepare the server for service.
a. Power off the server, open an SSH session and log in to the Service Processor.
Type:stop /SYS or
cd /SP/CtrlInfo
set powerctrl=off
b. Disconnect the power cord (or cords) from the power supply (or supplies).
c. Slide the server out of the rack and remove the top cover.
*3. If you are servicing the drives backplane, remove all drives.*
Note - Make a note of the drive locations. You will need to install the drives in the correct locations when reassembling the system.
*4. If you are servicing the drives backplane, remove the DVD/USB module.*
*5. Remove the fan modules.*
*6. Remove the No. 2 Phillips screws securing the drives cage to the chassis.*
*7. Slide the drives cage forward to disengage the backplane from the Paddle cards.*
*8. Lift the drives cage up and disconnect the drives data cables*
*9. Set the drives cage on an antistatic ma{*}t.
Installing the Drives Cage
1. Press the connector into its socket until it snaps into place for connect the drives data cables.
2. Position the drives cage in the chassis, over its standoffs.
3. Slide the drives cage back carefully until the drives backplane engages with the Paddle card connector.
Ensure that the drives backplane and Paddle board connectors align and engage. Do not force the cage back and assume connectors are aligned.
4. Replace the No. 2 Phillips screws securing the drives cage to the chassis.
5. Install the fan modules and the top cover .
6. Install the server into the rack.
7. Install the drives*, e{*}nsure you are installing the drives in the correct drive bays.
8. Install the DVD/USB module.
9. Return the server to operation, verify that the AC Present LED is lit.
10. Power on the server.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Restart system and have the System administrator verify functionality of system.
