TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4600, X4600 M2 Power Supply needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer is not required to perform a system shutdown.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Identify which power supply you will replace. Each power supply has an LED that you can view from the rear of the server:

The PSUs are numbered upwards from PS0 which is the lowest PSU
LED is off : Power supply is operating properly
LED is on (amber) : Power supply is faulty and should be replaced

2. Disconnect the power cord from the power supply that you are replacing.  The power supplies are hot-swappable, so you do not have to shut down the server or disconnect the second power supply.

3. Remove the power supply.

4. Installation is the reverse of this procedure.  When installing a new power supply, press it into the bay until the thumb latch clicks, indicating that it is locked

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Check LEDs show that replaced PSU is functioning
