DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:

Training and experience with 7120 NAS hardware and administration.

DELIVERY REQUIREMENT: schedule with customer

TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

Caution - Hazardous moving parts*.* Unless the power to the server is completely shut down, the only service permitted in the fan compartment is the replacement of the fan modules.
1. Extend the server into the maintenance position.
2. To access the fans, open the top cover fan door. Press the two green release buttons on the sides of the fan door to release the door. Rotate the fan door to the open position and hold it there.

Note - Close the top cover door within 60 seconds to maintain adequate airflow to properly cool the server. Leaving the door open for more than 60 seconds, while the server is running, might cause the server to overheat and shut down.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Removing the fan modules

1. Locate the faulted fan in the BUI. Maintenance -> Hardware -> show details -> Fan
2. Identify the faulty fan module with a corresponding Fan status LED lit amber. (The Fan LEDs are located on the server side wall)
3. Using your thumb fingers, grasp the fan module and lift it straight up and out of the fan power board.
Caution - When removing a fan module, do not rock it back and forth. Rocking a fan module might damage to the fan board connectors.

Installing the fan modules
1. With the top cover door open, install the replacement fan module into the server.

* Grasp the fan module with your thumb and fingers and position it so that the connector on the underside of the fan module aligns with connector on the fan power board.
* Apply firm, downward pressure to the fan module to fully seat it into the fan power board.

2. Verify that the Fan Fault status LED for the replaced fan module is lit green.

Return system to operational state

1. Close the top cover.
2. Verify that the Top Fan LED and the Service Action Required LED on the server's front panel are extinguished.
3. Reinstall the appliance back in its original rack position.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

Confirm the appliance is in a normal state. Check both BUI access and client data access.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Confirm fan faults cleared in the appliance BUI. Maintenance -> Problems or Maintenance -> Hardware -> show details -> Fan

PARTS NOTE: 541-4222 - Fan Assembly
