PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4470, Sun Server X2-4 (Sun Fire X4470 M2) Disk Backplane needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

This replacement requires a complete shutdown and poweroff of the server.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

A- Preparing for servicing:

* 1.- Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
* 2.- Power off the server.
* 3.- Extend the server to the maintenance position.
* 4.- Remove top cover.

B- Remove All Disk

C- Remove Power Cable, ribbon data cable, and any SAS/SATA cables from the disk drive backplane.

D- Push up the wire tab in the upper corner and pull the disk drive backplane up and out of the chassis.

Installing the Disk Drive Backplane

1.- Unpack the replacement disk and place it on an antistatic mat while wearing the antistatic wrist strap.

2.- Insert the disk drive backplane into the chassis. Verify that the disk drive is seated properly at the bottom, in small slot near the DVD drive.

3.- Lift up the metal hook and press the disk drive backplane to the front until it snaps into place.

Replacing the power cable, ribbon data cable, and any SAS/SATA cables.

The mini-SAS plug that terminates the short SAS/SATA cable must be inserted into the upper mini-SAS connector on the disk backplane. This short cable connects the SATA DVD to its USB-SATA bridge on the motherboard. The longer SAS/SATA cable connects drive bays 4 and 5; and 5 to a storage device in the rear of the system. The lower mini-SAS connector on the disk backplane requires the standard four-channel mini-SAS cable for bays 0 to 3. Be sure to use the right type of mini-SAS cable.

A. Replace all disk drives and filler panels

B. Replace the DVD drive.

C. Return the server to operation

* Install the top cover.
* Return the server to the normal rack position
* Power on the server.
